he Early Years

The Ermenegildo Zegna Group, often simply referred to as Zegna, began its illustrious history in 1910. The company’s namesake Ermenegildo established the firm in the small town of Trivero, Italy in the Biella Alps. From its beginning, Zegna’s focus was on high-quality production materials, innovation of production and marketing of the brand.

The Modern Era

By the 1960s Ermenegildo’s sons Aldo and Angelo had taken over for their father. The siblings managed to take the company to the top of the high-end ready-to-wear market. Eventually, they added knitwear, sportswear, and accessories to the product mix. The company has production facilities in Switzerland, Mexico, Spain, Turkey, and China.

They have branches across the globe including Spain, the United States, Japan, and Australia just to name a few. In total, there are 392 points of sale throughout the world. In all, the company makes products ranging from raw fabrics to suits, neckties, sportswear, and accessories. Currently, the company produces its own high-end brand of clothing as well as garments for other well-known brands such as Gucci and Tom Ford. In addition to its ready-to-wear products, the company offers “Made to Measure” services through select retailers.

Quality Wool Leads to a Sterling Reputation

Due to its focus on quality, Zegna has maintained a superb reputation throughout the years. Although the company has branched out in recent years, Zegna’s reputation is founded in its production of fine wool suits. The heart of this success is its world-renowned wool mill.

Accordingly, Zegna has supported the production of Merino wool in Australia. To further incentivize producers, the company created the Ermenegildo Zegna Extra Fine Wool Trophy. The original award dates back to 1963 and was focused on farmers from Tasmania. However, since Australia has long been recognized as the world’s best producer of this fine fibre, the company created an award, especially for Australian farmers in 1980. Since then, the prestige of the award has snowballed and currently is one of the most anticipated events in the wool production community.
